Alonso: I think Mourinho will stay with Real Madrid

The influential midfielder hopes the Blancos trainer will remain at the Santiago Bernabeu for at least one more season, while praising Cristiano Ronaldo

Xabi Alonso is hopeful that head coach Jose Mourinho will not leave Real Madrid in the summer.

The former Inter boss is continually being linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu, with the Portuguese stating more than once that he has set his sights on a return to the Premier League at some point in the future.

Nevertheless, Alonso thinks that the 50-year-old will stay put for the foreseeable future.

I know he loves the Premier League and its atmosphere, and the way the game is played in England. He will go back to England one day, he said so himself. But I believe and hope that he is with us next season,” the Spain international told The Times of India.

He is a very good manager. The way he transmits his ideas, communicates with players is different. He understands his players and you want to win for him.

Alonso then went on to praise Cristiano Ronaldo, and hailed the Portugal international’s workrate.

“He is an amazing player. It is very different to play with him than against him. I am lucky to say he is on my side. He is in terrific form and he is looking forward to helping us win more trophies.

“His goals do the talking about his ability, but it is also his work ethic that is incredible. He is very special.”

Ronaldo has already netted 44 goals in as many appearances for Madrid so far this term.
