Benitez: I have a problem with Moratti, not Inter

The Partenopei coach praised Napoli for bagging their third win in a short space of time against Sassuolo, which had been preceded by back-to-back defeats

Napoli coach Rafael Benitez insists he does not have a problem with former club Inter – just honorary president Massimo Moratti.

Nerazzurri director Piero Ausilio had said the Spaniard was “getting boring” with his comments on the Milan-based club over the weekend, who are now coached by former San Paolo boss Walter Mazzarri.

Following Sunday’s 2-0 win at Sassuolo, Benitez expressed his thoughts on the Inter chief’s comments before any reporters could ask him about the quotes, insisting he held no grudge against the club he used to coach.

“I had been asked about my impressions on the differences between my Inter and the current one, I did not say anything offensive,” he told reporters, defending himself against the accusations from Ausilio.

“Piero is a good guy and works for Inter, I understand he has to say something because that is his job. I do not have any problems with Inter, but with Moratti as he did not keep his promises. “

Benitez also praised his team for maintaining the high standards he has set them in the face of so many fixtures and revealed Gonzalo Higuain could miss Thursday’s Europa League clash with Swansea City.

“If we see a team playing with this level of intensity despite it being the third game in eight days, then I can only be satisfied,” he added.

“Of course we can always improve. Marek Hamsik is sharper now and has more match fitness, so we’re starting to see his quality emerge too.

“We can’t say anything now, as we have to perform some tests tomorrow. I can’t say if he’ll play on Thursday, but we have time to evaluate the situation,” Benitez added.

“It will be extremely difficult, as Swansea play good football and won’t let us keep possession for long.”

Napoli sit third in Serie A, are in the last 32 of the Europa League and have a Coppa Italia final to look forward to later this season.
