Benzema has les bleus over unfair criticism

The former Olympique Lyonnais man feels his detractors should look at what he does for the team rather than just focus on his lack of goals

Real Madrid attacker Karim Benzema says he does not deserve the criticism he has received for his supposedly poor performances for France’s national team.

The 25-year-old, who has not scored for les Bleus since a 4-0 against Estonia in June 2012, a run stretching back 10 games, has stressed his importance to the side in other areas and believes he should not be judged solely on his goalscoring form.

“It bothers me that people keep pointing out that I do not score goals,” Benzema told RMC.

“They don’t seem to notice that I contribute to the team in other ways. I free up space for my team-mates and I create goals. That seems to go unnoticed.

“I realise that people expect a lot from me, and I always give my all. However, I obviously cannot do it all on my own.

“What matters most now is that we have two important matches coming up. I feel great and I want to have a good week with France.”

National team coach Didier Deschamps‘ men take on Georgia on Friday, before locking horns with Spain four days later.
