Ricardo Carvalho has voiced his opinion that the referee in Real Madrid’s 2-0 Copa del Rey win over Valencia on Tuesday did not favour his side.
Valencia striker Roberto Soldado, who was on the receiving end of several contentious offside calls in the encounter, claimed that pre-match comments in the media from the Santiago Bernabeu influenced the officials, but the former Chelsea man disagrees.
“We ended the past few games with 10 players, but the referee was fair to both teams this time around,” the Portuguese told reporters.
The centre-back then went on to stress that the quarter-final tie is not over yet, despite Madrid’s 2-0 first-leg win.
“This result isn’t definitive. It was important not to concede any goals and it’ll be necessary to score in Valencia to make things easier.
“We could have scored a third goal and we won fairly. We’re motivated in every match.”
The Mestalla leg of the quarter-final takes place on January 22.
