CSKA Moscow and Russia striker Fyodor Chalov is a target for both Chelsea and Crystal Palace ahead of the January transfer window.
Both are looking to the 21-year-old to bolster their attacking options, with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich reportedly a big fan of Chalov, and would be interested in signing the striker if Chelsea’s transfer ban is lifted in January.
It was reported by Sky Sports, that Chelsea’s London rivals Crystal Palace are also interested – and are willing to pay up to £25m to secure the Russian’s signature.
Chalov is not the only player Chelsea have been linked with recently, as it was also reported that Leicester’s Ben Chillwell would be an option if their FIFA transfer ban was to be overturned next month.
The Russian has now emerged as a target for the Blues after Abramovich revealed his admiration for his compatriot. Tammy Abraham has been in top form for the Blues this season, so Chalov would most likely be a backup for the England international, displacing the in-and-out pair of Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud.
Palace, however, have had striking problems. Jordan Ayew currently tops their goalscoring list with four goals, while Christian Benteke has never been able to replicate his form from his first season at Palace – with only four goals in his last 56 Premier League games.
With both clubs very interested in the 21-year-old, Chalov would need to make a choice between the two London clubs. Chelsea are, of course, the bigger side, but he is more likely to get game time at the Eagles (and the Blues may well be unable to sign him this winter anyway).
He broke into CSKA’s team in 2016 and has gone from strength to strength since his debut, bagging 27 league goals in 65 appearances. He recently made his international debut for Russia, but is yet to open his goalscoring account.
