Danilo: ‘Never rested on my laurels’

Juventus defender Danilo ‘never rested on my laurels’ and embraced the new challenge in Serie A.

The Brazilian made the move from Manchester City last season, having previously played at Real Madrid, FC Porto and Santos.

“One of the things I’m proudest of is that I never rested on my laurels,” said Danilo in a video he posted on Instagram.

“I don’t stop to think about what I’ve won, but concentrate on what is yet to come. That motivation drives me day after day.

“I’m very satisfied with my first season in Italy, because we won the Scudetto and I became a very small part of the immense Juventus history.”

It was an entirely anomalous campaign, split by a three-month lockdown and COVID-19 pandemic.

“Getting back on the field after the lockdown felt different and it should be dedicated to all those people who suffered during the pandemic. Italy was hit hard and I think football allowed people a distraction and moments of joy.”

After Manchester City, Danilo is enjoying the experience of living and working in Italy.

“Turin is far more like Portugal or Spain than England, the people are far warmer and it’s a city that lets you take a breather. My family and I are very happy here.

“I can’t argue with the food either, I love burrata and pasta. I eat lasagne with rice, but they don’t do that here.”
