The 44-year-old has hailed the centre-back’s maturity and believes he will develop into a key figure for the national team over time
France coach Didier Deschamps has taken the time to praise Real Madrid youngster Raphael Varane and has little doubt that he will become a key player for the Bleus.
The centre-back has been in sublime form in the past few months, and is expected to make his France debut in the upcoming 2014 World Cup qualifier against Georgia on March 22.
“It is not very typical to be a starting player at Real Madrid at 19 years old, that says a lot about his caliber,” Deschamps told RMC.
“He played three consecutive, very important matches. At the beginning of the season, he didn’t play very much, but since January he has been playing more and now he is a starting player on Real Madrid.
“His maturity is very uncommon for someone of his age. Varane is the future of the national team. We will see if that means tomorrow, in six months, or in a year.”
Varane previously received call-ups for the friendlies against Uruguay and Germany, but has yet to make his France debut at senior level.
