Frank Lampard Reveals Extent of ‘Nasty’ Christian Pulisic Injury

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has revealed the extent of winger Christian Pulisic’s thigh injury, with the American set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The former Borussia Dortmund man suffered a knock in training before the FA Cup tie against Nottingham Forest that will keep him out for a few weeks. It is likely that he will miss the rest of Chelsea’s January fixtures.

Pulisic had established himself as a first-teamer for Chelsea, scoring five times and assisting twice in 16 Premier League appearances.

But he won’t be able to add to those tallies for a few weeks, Lampard confirmed: “Pulisic is out, he will be out for a few weeks.

“He was injured in training last Friday, that was the Saturday before Nottingham Forest. That is an injury in adductor. So he has a tendon injury.

“It’s disappointing for us and we will have to see how quickly he recovers because it is quite a nasty injury.

“It is a damaging miss. Before Christmas, he did report a bit of tiredness so he came out of the team and I was worried about injury. He is a very talented player, where he can make things happen.”

This will be a blow to the Blues who had seen an improvement in performance by the £58m man, but Lampard will now have to look to the likes of Willian, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Pedro to provide in the wide areas.

There was also an update on Ruben Loftus-Cheek who is yet to feature at all for Chelsea this season as he continues on the road to recovery following a serious achilles injury. Lampard confirmed that Loftus-Cheek is still out for a while but will hopefully be back in collective training soon.

Chelsea are fourth in the Premier League, five points clear of fifth place Manchester United and host Burnley at Stamford Bridge this weekend looking to maintain that gap. However, if they are to stretch their advanyage they’ll have to do without the help of the American.
