Galatasaray not scared by Madrid, says Aysal

The Turkish champions make the daunting trip to the Santiago Bernabeu next week, but the 71-year-old Istanbul native insists that they are unafraid of their illustrious rivals

Galatasaray chairman Unal Aysal insists that his side has nothing to fear from any side left in the Champions League, let alone quarter-final opponents Real Madrid.

The Super Lig champions are rated as rank outsiders ahead of their meeting with los Blancos, who appear to be coming into form at just the right time as they go in search of their 10th European crown.

However, Aysal claims that Galatasaray are a match for not only Madrid, but also every other side still standing in this season’s Champions League.

“In this round all the teams are playing to defeat each other, but Galatasaray are not inferior to anyone,” the 71-year-old Istanbul native told CNNTurk.

“Real Madrid are very strong, they have a budget three times greater than ours and they have very strong players, but we also have great ambition.

“We have no reservations – Galatasaray will go on to the field to win.”

Galatasaray travel to the Spanish capital for the first leg on Wednesday evening, before welcoming Madrid to the Turk Telekom Arena for the return fixture on April 9.
