Hugo Sanchez: Benzema & Higuain must contribute more

The 54-year-old feels both strikers should do more to help out Cristiano Ronaldo, and believes Raphael Varane has a bright future ahead of him

Former Real Madrid attacker Hugo Sanchez is pleased with the way the Blancos have been playing in recent months and is full of praise for Cristiano Ronaldo in particular.

Nevertheless, the Mexican feels that Madrid perhaps rely too much on Ronaldo and has urged Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain to contribute more to the team, too.

“I’m really happy with the way they’re playing: they’re extremely difficult to beat and ruthless,” Sanchez was quoted as saying by Marca.

“Cristiano Ronaldo in particular has been ruthless. He leads the charge when it comes to goals. But Higuain and Benzema need to help him out more.”

Sanchez also has his say on promising youngster Raphael Varane and hailed Jose Mourinho’s decision to give the Frenchman a chance to prove his worth.

“It’s an interesting decision and a good call from Mourinho. His youthful exuberance, ability and coolness under pressure are a pleasure to behold, because it means Real have a centre-back for many years to come.”

Varane has made 11 Liga appearances so far this term.
