Italiano: ‘Spezia heads high against Juve’

Vincenzo Italiano wants Spezia to ‘leave the field with our heads held high’ against Juventus and is ‘happy’ for Andrea Pirlo’s career path.

It kicks off on Sunday at 14.00 GMT, click here for a match preview.

“I met Pirlo during the coaching badges course at Coverciano, he is a humble person,” said Italiano, who also had to pass the course before being allowed to sit on a Serie A bench in September.

“Everyone has their career path, some start from the lower leagues, others are called upon to prove themselves from the very start at a top level like Pirlo.

“I am happy for Andrea, because he is an extraordinary person.”

Spezia hope to cause an upset, as Juventus have been held by Crotone and Verona in recent weeks.

“I expect Juventus to come out fighting and it’s going to be a very complicated game for us, as I’m convinced the Bianconeri haven’t achieved the results they deserved so far this season.

“We will try to confirm our good performances of the last few weeks and cause problems for the opposition when we have the chance. We’re happy to have Riccardo Marchizza back, even if he’s only had one training session.

“The points are important against Juventus, but even more so we want to leave the field with our heads held high.”
