Ivanovic tips Mourinho for Chelsea job

The 29-year-old never played under the Portuguese boss during his time at Stamford Bridge, but he is excited by rumours that the Real Madrid coach could return to west London

Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has admitted that it would be a “pleasure” to work with Jose Mourinho if he returned to manage the club next season.

The 50-year-old, who guided the Blues to two Premier League titles before leaving the club in September 2007, has been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season to succeed interim boss Rafael Benitez.

With speculation continuing to surround Mourinho’s future at Real Madrid after reports of dressing room unrest this season, he has even hinted that he would be open to a return to a club he has managed already, with Ivanovic pleased by the prospect of such a move.

“For the top club, and for the big club of [like] Chelsea, we need the best from the players,” Ivanovic told Sky Sports.

“From the managers and maybe one day it will be a pleasure to work with him.

“We’ll see. You never know and it’s not time for us to speak but the players who said already in the paper who worked with him already said he was success[ful].

“This is a very, very important thing. And for him personally, how he said Chelsea is his home and he loves the club and I think this is something positive and [creates a] good atmosphere, which can have good, positive things for the club.”

Chelsea currently sit in third place in the Premier League table, four points adrift of Manchester City with nine games of the campaign still to play.
