Chelsea have confirmed the arrival on Gonzalo Higuain on a loan deal until the end of the season.
A 2-0 defeat to Arsenal last weekend ramped up the pressure on the Blues and a lack of potency in the final third has become a particular issue at Stamford Bridge.
The Gunners and Manchester United are just three points behind Maurizio Sarri’s men – who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.
Sarri will hope that Higuain’s arrival will kick-start an attack that has managed just 13 goals in their last dozen Premier League games.
Higuain doesn’t arrive from AC Milan in fantastic form though, with the Argentina international managing just six Serie A goals this term.
With that in mind, bet365 are going 10/1 (11.0) that the 31-year-old could score over 9.5 Premier League goals before the end of the current campaign.
Higuain and Sarri worked well together at Napoli with the striker plundering 36 league goals in the 2015-16 season, equalling the record for a single season at the time.
The Chelsea boss has spoken about his hopes to “regenerate” the former Real Madrid man and with the creative influence of Eden Hazard, the new arrival should get plenty of opportunities if he can rediscover the form from earlier in his illustrious career.
With the recent dip in form, bet365 now make Chelsea 13/8 (2.63) shots to finish outside the top four and 1/2 (1.50) to secure a Champions League qualification place.
The Argentine hasn’t been registered in time to play in the Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Tottenham on Thursday but it’s odds on that that the Blues qualify against a Spurs side missing Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Heung-Min Son.
With Manchester City all-but confirming their place in the final, Chelsea are an industry-best price of 5/1 (6.0) to win the competition while the same price is available on them lifting the FA Cup this season.
The prospects of some silverware look relatively bright for Chelsea despite their recent stutter. Bet365 go 4/1 (5.0) that the London club are crowned Europa League champions ahead of Arsenal (6/1) and Sarri’s former side Napoli (7/1).
