Ozil targets more Real Madrid goals

The creative midfielder is pleased with the way he has developed at Madrid, but feels he should score more often

Mesut Ozil has insisted he has become a better player since joining Real Madrid from Werder Bremen, but has admitted there is room for improvement in the goalscoring department.

The Germany international moved to the Blancos in the summer of 2010 and has since developed into a key player at the Spanish champions.

Nevertheless, he feels that even though his main job is to create goals rather than to score, he should still find the net more often.

“I have become stronger physically at Real Madrid and my performances are more consistent,” Ozil was quoted as saying on the official DFB website.

“I continue to have fun on the playing field and to enjoy football. Of course I have matured as a football player and I’m more experienced.

“I realise that there are still aspects of my game that need improvement, above all in terms of goals. My numbers could be better.

“I could take more shots at goal, even though I’m a playmaker and my job is to set up goals rather than score them. That’s what I will focus on, but that doesn’t mean I won’t try to score more.”

Ozil has netted four goals in 25 Liga appearances so far this term.
