Sarri to cost Juventus 8.5m?

Maurizio Sarri is reportedly refusing to terminate his contract early by mutual consent, so Juventus will end up paying up to €8.5m.

The coach was unceremoniously fired despite winning the Serie A title and reaching the Coppa Italia Final, as a Champions League Round of 16 exit to Lyon was considered unforgivable.

Above all, his relationship with the team never really got off the ground and the Corriere della Sera newspaper claim he told directors ‘this team is untrainable.’

The same report also states that Sarri has no intention of terminating his contract early by mutual consent.

A month has passed since he was sacked to make way for novice Andrea Pirlo and his salary is worth €6m per season.

There is a clause allowing Juventus to terminate the contract a year early for €2.5m, but that is only valid from June 2021.

If Sarri takes the year off, he can continue to pocket the €6m wages and then force the club to pay a further €2.5m clause next summer.
