Soldado gunning for Real Madrid revenge

Roberto Soldado says Valencia are “aiming for revenge” when they face Real Madrid on Sunday.

Los Blancos emerged 2-0 winners over Los Che on Wednesday, in the first leg of their Copa del Rey quarter-final, but a number of controversial refereeing decisions dominated much of the post-match talk.

The two sides meet again in La Liga this weekend, giving Soldado and his team-mates an immediate opportunity to put things right, ahead of the second-leg next Tuesday.

“I do not think the referee was prejudiced against us. What happened, though, has to serve to strengthen us, to make us stronger,” he told the press on Friday.

“The cup tie really could go either way. We also could have left with a better or worse scoreline because they had further chances too, but what happened at the [Santiago] Bernabeu must make us stronger.

“We are outraged but we have to unite and more so at home with these two games against Real Madrid.”

“We will aim for revenge. It is great to play three matches of this intensity against Real. We are all looking forward to playing the game on Sunday and give it our all to ensure we get our revenge.”

However, though coach Ernesto Valverde will be present in the dug-out on Sunday, they will have to do without him in the Copa del Rey after he was sent off and subsequently handed a two-match ban.
