Valdes: I hope Casillas returns soon

The Barcelona goalkeeper admitted he has a great friendship with his Real Madrid counterpart, but is confident Spain can beat France in his absence

Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has admitted that he hopes his Spain team-mate, Real Madrid skipper Iker Casillas will return from injury as soon as he can.

The Roja captain has been missing for club and country for two months after breaking a finger, but the Blaugrana star is eager to see him make a comeback and banish talk of his Blancos place being under threat.

“Casillas? I have always said, I consider him a great friend, a great team-mate and he is missed,” he told Sefutbol.com.

“I would also like him to return as soon as he can to the Real Madrid goal and to put all this [dispute with Mourinho] behind him.”

Vicente del Bosque’s side travel to Paris on Tuesday needing a win after dropping points against Finland on Friday, but Vales remains confident of victory.

“Against Finland we failed to kill off the game. But now we are calm, our mind is on France and we are confident in our abilities. We know of nothing other than to go out and win, and that is what we are going to do.”

The 31-year-old also revealed that he is not looking into the future when it comes to his international career, with his focus solely on the present.

He added: “I do not look to long-term goals, I’ve never been one for that and with la Seleccion I feel privileged to be here, ever since the coach called me up to the squad for South Africa.

“I live for the moment, I cannot ask for more.”
