Chelsea, Brighton and Crystal Palace Eyeing January Move for CSKA Moscow Striker Fedor Chalov

A number of Premier League clubs are understood to be interested in signing CSKA Moscow striker Fedor Chalov.

The 21-year-old has scored six goals in 27 appearances this season for the Russian side and took part in each of CSKA’s Europa League group games.

His performances have apparently attracted the attention of a number of English sides, with Sky Sports reporting that Chelsea, Brighton and Crystal Palace are all chasing the youngster.

Chalov came through the CSKA youth academy, making his debut partway through the 2016/2017 campaign. Since then, he has gone on to represent the club over 100 times scoring 36 goals and registering 19 assists in the process.

The frontman is thought to be highly regarded by Blues owner Roman Abramovich who has a history of personally pursuing the club’s transfer targets, as the signing of Andriy Shevchenko in 2006 demonstrates.

Frank Lampard is keen to bring in a striker to lessen the goal-scoring burden placed on Tammy Abraham, and Chalov fits the bill. However, he is not the only centre-forward linked with the Blues, with the club having a bid rejected for Lyon star Moussa Dembele earlier in the week. Inter striker Gabriel Barbosa, who impressed during a loan spell at Flamengo recently, has also been touted for a move to Stamford Bridge.

Brighton could similarly strengthen their attacking options in January with Chalov thought to be just one of the names on a shortlist compiled by Graham Potter. Despite this, Potter has previously revealed his scepticism of recruiting in January, meaning that any additions may be brought in during the summer.

On the other hand, the majority of transfer speculation surrounding Crystal Palace so far has largely concerned outgoings, with Chalov – who they bid for in the summer – among the first names to be linked with a January move to the Eagles. Victor Camarasa and, more worryingly, Wilfried Zaha’s futures both look uncertain in what is set to be another nervy transfer window for Roy Hodgson.
