David Beckham has said that he would love to sign Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for Inter Miami, because obviously he would.
Beckham has had plans to set up a MLS franchise of his own ever since he arrived at LA Galaxy back in 2007.
After several years of planning and setbacks, Miami will finally make their competitive debut when the season kicks off on Sunday.
The Herons’ squad has been assembled but they have yet to make the marquee signing that Beckham has promised – though David Silva has been touted as a potential summer arrival.
The former England captain hinted (via the Mirror) that this void could be filled by the arrival of either Messi or Ronaldo in the future.
“
“But we always talked about us being different from any other team, which I am sure every other owner says exactly the same thing.
“So that’s what we will try to do and if we have the opportunity to bring big name players in, then great we’re lucky we have an ownership group that has that vision and wants to succeed and has that competitiveness where we want the best players.”
Beckham also insisted that he would be involved with day-to-day operations as owner this season, alongside his business partner Jorge Mas.
“
“This is not a vanity project, it is a legacy for us, for our families.
Beckham’s side kick off their season against Los Angeles FC this weekend, who boast ex-Arsenal forward Carlos Vela among their ranks.
