Genoa: ‘Zappacosta & Pjaca are ours’

Genoa have confirmed the arrivals of Davide Zappacosta and Marko Pjaca and are targeting ‘three more players’, but Mario Balotelli will not be one of them.

Reports suggested Genoa were close to agreeing loan deals for the pair, and sporting director Daniele Faggiano announced this afternoon that only medicals prevented them from formally signing.

“Zappacosta and Pjaca have already signed for us and they’re now in the process of completing their medicals. I believe in them,” he said at a press conference.

“The Croatian [Pjaca] has been dogged by messages from me, Perin, Badelj and even Kulusevski: he’s motivated and enthusiastic because he wants to get back to his best.”

Faggiano then revealed the Grifone were trying to bring back striker Antonio Sanabria from Real Betis but also that Balotelli was not being considered as an alternative.

“We’ll see [about Sanabria]… we’re also working on other options. Balotelli isn’t one of them, but Stepinski could be back on the cards.

“We’ll add three more players to the squad. I don’s think Maran will deviate from 3-5-2 because we’ve signed several players for that formation.

“If anything, the formation can be changed during matches.”
