Manchester City Among 3 European Giants Showing Interest in Lyon’s Houssem Aouar

Manchester City, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are all said to be keen on Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, who could be available for around €70m in the summer.

The 21-year-old has built up a reputation as one of the brightest young prospects in European football in recent seasons. He’s a hugely important player for Lyon, starting 23 of his side’s 28 league fixtures this campaign, contributing nine goals and seven assists in all competitions in 2019/20.

The Frenchman can play in central midfield, while he has also operated as a more attacking-midfielder as well as on the wing this season, underlining his versatility. And although he may be just 21, he has also captained Les Gones on multiple occasions.

With Aouar continuing to impress, it is hardly a surprise that there is interest in his services. Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) report that Manchester City, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are all keen on the player. Moreover, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is said to be willing to consider a deal if an offer of around €70m is made.

They claim that Juventus have been attempting to sign Aouar for ‘a while’, with the Serie A outfit aware of the fact that there is competition for his services. I Bianconeri’s interest is not new, and with a deal for Manchester United’s Paul Pogba unlikely, they have since opted to turn their attention towards Aouar and Brescia’s Sandro Tonali.

The report further explains that French giants PSG are ‘moving decisively’, although there are also ‘admirers’ from the blue half of Manchester. Pep Guardiola will lose David Silva at the end of the season once his contract expires, but young Phil Foden has been very impressive when given the opportunity.

Aouar did admit in December 2018 that he would, in fact, ‘love’ to play under Guardiola one day as they share similar opinions. However, considering City‘s defensive problems this season, Guardiola could look to strengthen in that department before looking elsewhere.

As for PSG, they have proven that they are willing to pay up if they are keen on the player and with Aouar continuing to shine in Ligue 1, it is hardly a surprise they are said to be considering a move.
