Miralem Pjanic ‘Makes Decision’ on Juventus Future Amid Barcelona Interest

Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic has reportedly snubbed interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester United – deciding that he will join Barcelona when the summer transfer window opens.

The Bosnian has been an integral part of I Bianconeri’s recent dominance of Italian football, and at the point football in Italy was paused in March, he was on course for a fourth Serie A title since joining from AS Roma in 2016.

There have been rumblings of an exit for the playmaker for a while now, however, and those came to the fore most prominently after he was left out of the pivotal 8 March clash with Inter – in which Aaron Ramsey assumed the role of midfield maestro and secured a 2-0 victory.

The Inter win underlined the depth of midfield talent in Turin and the fact that Pjanic’s race may have been run, a sentiment that was echoed earlier this month when reports came to light of a peculiar swap deal between Juve and Barca, involving any number of Catalan stars – ranging from Nelson Semedo to Arturo Vidal depending on who you believe.

The reports then said that Pjanic had already ‘said yes’ to a move to Camp Nou, and according to the latest from Mundo Deportivo, there has been little change on that front.

The Spanish outlet say that the 30-year-old has now decided that he will ‘only go to Barca’, writing off interest from PSG, whose sporting director Leonardo is said to have pulled out all the stops to lure him to Paris, as well as a contingent from the Premier League.

It’s said – believably – that Pjanic stood to make more money in England or France, but that the idea of a Barcelona move resonates with him for a number of non-fiscal reasons.

He is said to be enamoured with the style of play and the opportunity to lead from the front and win trophies on the front lines with Lionel Messi.

From the club’s perspective, Pjanic’s leadership qualities are central to their interest, at a time when a host of young talents such as the newly-arriving Pedri and Francisco Trincao will be integrated into the squad.
