Parma director Marcello Carli insists the club ‘never dreamed of not travelling’ for their Serie A matches even with eight COVID-19 cases.
The protocol agreed by all the Serie A sides before the 2020-21 season kicked off was made to ensure the competition could reach a natural conclusion.
This is why the FIGC and Serie A disciplinary commissions came down so hard on Napoli, fearing letting them not attend a game for just two COVID cases in the squad would set a precedent.
“Fabio Liverani is a really forward-thinking coach who never complains about anything,” said Parma director Carli during a press conference.
“When we made the journey to Udine with eight COVID cases, we never dreamed of not travelling. We don’t want to have alibis, so even if we just had 10 players left, we would’ve travelled anyway.
“Everyone has to deal with the virus, inside and outside football, so we need to give a sense of joy to people with this sport, otherwise what’s the point?”
