RUMOURS: Chelsea required to pay €100m for Higuain

The Stamford Bridge side are looking to reinforce their front line and have been linked to the free-scoring Napoli striker, but could be warned off by his massive release clause

Gonzalo Higuain’s free-scoring form for Napoli has seen him attract the interest of Chelsea, but the Blues have been made aware that they will have to fork out €100 million (£76m) to sign the striker, according to Fichajes.

The Argentine has scored 20 goals in 20 Serie A games this term, firing the Partenopei to the top of Serie A.

With Chelsea looking to add to their strike options, Guus Hiddink’s men have been linked to a move to Higuain. However, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is hoping the former Real Madrid hitman will sign a new contract that will tie him to the club until 2019, while raising his release clause to a huge €100m.

If, of course, Chelsea can turn the 28-year-old’s head then they will perhaps be able to lure him away from the Stadio San Paolo for a smaller fee.

The Stamford Bridge club are looking to reinforce their attack as they lack reliable backup for Diego Costa, who continues to struggle with inconsistency.
